A one sec alternative
for after the pause.

How one sec works

one sec adds friction at the door. Open a distracting app and a breathing animation plays first; then you choose to go in or walk away. It can also nudge you back out after a set time. One app is free; Pro is $6.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $99.99 once. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac, has extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, and holds 4.8 stars from about 24,000 App Store ratings.

The gap after the pause

A pause works on the reflex of opening the app. Once you decide to go in, though, the feed is the same feed: Shorts, autoplay and a recommendation rail that never ends. It is easy to take the breath, tap through, and lose the next half hour anyway.

What Eclipsis does inside the feed

Eclipsis removes YouTube Shorts, recommendation shelves, autoplay and open-in-app nags, free. With Eclipsis Pro, each new post takes a little longer to arrive than the last, so the feed reaches an end instead of refilling forever. There is no block screen; the next post simply waits.

Better together

one sec and Eclipsis barely overlap. Keep one sec's pause in front of the apps you open by habit, and let Eclipsis change what is waiting inside. If you would rather not open an app at all, Eclipsis's app lock hides it until a daily window.

When one sec is all you need

If the problem is the reflex of opening an app, and once inside you are fine, one sec alone may be enough. It also covers Android, which Eclipsis does not yet.

Questions

Can I use one sec and Eclipsis together?
Yes. one sec pauses before an app opens; Eclipsis changes the feed in Safari and in its own browser.
Does Eclipsis add a pause before apps open?
No. It works inside the feed. Its app lock can hide apps until a daily window, which is a wall rather than a pause.
Is Eclipsis free?
The Chrome and Firefox extensions are free, and so are the iPhone app's feed cleanup and app lock. Eclipsis Pro, $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, adds the slowdown that makes feeds run out, the AI feed filter and Parent Mode.
